MORTAL REMAINS OF FORMER PRESIDENT FLOWN TO EAST JAVA
Jakarta, Dec 31 (ANTARA) - The mortal remains of former President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur who passed away on Wednesday evening was flown in a Hercules C1341 plane on Thursday morning to Jombang, East Java, for burial in a family graveyard.
Accompanying the Late Gus Dur in the plane were main members of his family. Besides Hercules C1341, Hercules C1321 was also flown to carry other mourners.
Preparations have been made at Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta, since 5.3 am from where the Late former president was flown to East Java at 8.30 am.
Gus Dur died at Cipto Mangunkusumo here at 6.45 pm on Wednesday of heart failure, kidney and diabetes problems. He underwent a tooth operation at the hospital on Tuesday.
Gus Dur passed away at the age of 69.
Before becoming the fourth president of Indonesia from October 1999 to July 2001, Gus Dur chaired the country`s largest Muslim organization the Nahdlatul Ulama. Muhammadiyah is the country`s second largest Muslim organization.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Wednesday that he would lead the funeral of former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, in Jombang, East Java.
