Samsung's 'Haptic,' LG's 'Cookie' most wanted cellphones in 2009
SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- "Haptic Pop" by Samsung Electronics Co. and "Cookie"
by LG Electronics Inc. were among South Korea's most popular cell phone models in
2009, industry data said Thursday.
Samsung's Haptic Pop was the most popular phone this year to subscribers of SK
Telecom, South Korea's largest mobile carrier by subscribers. Samsung sold about
550,000 units of Haptic Pop this year via SK Telecom, according to SK.
Samsung's cellphones were ranked among the four most popular phones to SK
subscribers, followed by LG's Cookie and Lollipop. LG shipped 325,000 units of
the Cookie phone and 200,000 Lollipops in 2009.
Motorola Inc. was the only non-Korean maker of mobile handsets that made into the
top seven. About 175,000 units of RAZR Luk by Motorola were shipped.
KT Corp., the second-largest mobile carrier by subscribers, said their top three
most popular phones were made by Samsung. KT sold 720,000 units of the Metal Slim
to its subscribers and 440,000 Duo phones. Yuna's Haptic, named after South
Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na, came in third with 320,000 units.
LG's Cookie phone came in fourth with 310,000 units sold to KT subscribers.
