Int'l airports plan special events to celebrate Visit Korea Year
SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- Organizers of "Visit Korea Year 2010-2012" said
Thursday that welcoming events will be held for foreign tourists at the nation's
major international airports on the first day of 2010.
Incheon International Airport plans to hold a celebratory event for foreign
visitors arriving on the first flight of the New Year, committee officials said.
The airport authority will hold a lottery to select recipients of special gifts,
like business class tickets and hotel lodging certificates, from among Chinese
and Japanese tourists arriving at Incheon aboard Korean Air flights from Shanghai
and Asiana Airlines flights from Narita, said officials.
Jeju International Airport will hand out locally grown tangerines to foreign
visitors arriving there on Friday, the organizing committee said.
The committee also plans to install a Visit Korea Year booth at the airports of
Incheon, Jeju, and Gimpo in Seoul to give out souvenirs, including tour maps, to
about 25,000 foreign tourists.
The South Korean government has declared the "Visit Korea" years in time for the
2012 Yeosu Expo, and seeks to attract 10 million foreign tourists a year.
The "Visit Korea 2010-2012" campaign, the third such national promotion following
two previous campaigns in 1994 and 2001-2002, is also aimed at upgrading South
Korea's national brand image and status as a destination for international
tourists.
