Carriers in the US and Europe were asking passengers to
carry only one hand baggage and arrive at airports early for
additional security checks.
New regulations to meet the heightened terror threats like
disallowing passengers to get up from their seats an hour
before landing are also being implemented by some foreign
airlines.
They said special instructions have been given to all
airlines and airport operators to keep trained staff to handle
any such event. Emergency drills would continue to be carried
out periodically.
Maintenance of security paraphernalia like close-circuit
televisions and other equipment were being carried out on a
regular basis to keep them functional, they said.
The sources said at all airports, security measures were
taken in accordance with International Civil Aviation
Organisation Standards and Recommended Practices as well as
the National Civil Aviation Security Programme.
The Indian Government has already decided to increase the
supervisory and inspectorial powers and responsibilities of
the BCAS to cope with the new challenges to aviation security.
