MEDIA URGED IN YEMEN TO HELP MAKE CHAMPIONSHIP A SUCCESS

ADEN, Dec. 31 (Saba) – Minister of Youth and Sports Hamoud Ubad urged on Thursday the media to play a vital role to help make the 20th Gulf Football Championship scheduled to take place in Yemen in late next year a success.

In a press conference in the business capital of Aden that was organized by the Information Center at the ministry of Youth and Sports for the media convoy visiting the facilities for the important sport event, the minister also urged the media should ease concerns and fears related to the hosting, saying doing so is a national duty.

He, moreover, said the media should warn over inefficiencies that can derail the plans for the event, affirming the ministerial panel on the championship is working hard on the plans and impatiently waiting to show the country must be ready to be the host.

Ubad, however, wondered about what has been said regarding the hosting of the event, saying that was politically-motivated but not serving development.

We should not give more attention to such voices which make a mountain out of a molehill seeking personal interests that disagree with the country's interest.

All arrangements for the championship including preparing and building infrastructure and facilities are ongoing as scheduled and nothing can derail our plans for the project, he assured.

Yemen was confirmed as the host of the championship by the countries of the teams which will compete in it, Arab Gulf states and Iraq and Yemen. The event will take place from November 22 to December 04, 2010 in the port cities of Aden and Abyan.

Earlier it reiterated it can host the championship, assuring no force or dirty project can affect the preparations for it.
