Former presidential candidate Faisal Bin Shamlan dies,
75 ADEN, Jan. 02 (Saba) -
Former presidential candidate Faisal Bin Shamlan has died at the age of 75 years old
at his
home in Yemen's business capital of Aden after a long illness.
He suffered from head
tumor that left him for several months last year at an Indian hospital before he
came
back to Aden two months ago. After his return from India, he left for Britain where
he underwent check-ups and came back to Aden ten days ago. Faisal Bin Shamlan was
chosen
by the Joint Meeting Parties in Yemen, an opposition coalition, to run for president
post against president Saleh in the 2006 presidential elections. He won 22 percent
of
the votes. President Saleh won 77 percent of the votes. He held several vital posts
including the post of minister of Oil and Minerals in 1994. FR
