Fact-finding parliamentary committee begins its work in Abyan
SANA'A, Jan.02 (Saba)
- The parliamentary committee on investigating the consequences of the security
conditions
in Abyan and Lahj provinces began its work on Saturday.
A meeting was held in the government complex in Abyan province gathering the
parliamentary committee and the local authority leadership in the province.
The attendants dealt generally with the security situation in the province and the
importance of strengthening the security stability factors combating crimes
disclosing
them before they occur so as to achieve the sustainable and inclusive development in
the province.
The province leadership gave the committee a presentation on the effects of the
recent security events and their preconceptions to overcome the security troubles
and make
the local authority performs its developmental role naturally in the province.
Late in last December, the parliament requested the government to present a
comprehensive report on the last developments on al-Qaeda threats in Yemen.
The parliament then assigned a committee to investigate the results of the recent
successful pre-emptive strikes against al-Qaeda hideouts and training sites in
Abyan in
the south and Sana'a, the capital, in the north.
The ground and strikes launched by anti-terror troops on the weekends of the last
two weeks of last December led to the killing of 34 terrorist suspects and
arresting 29.
Four of the suspects who were injured but survived being killed were arrested at
hospitals in Aden.
The raids were hailed by regional and international partners of Yemen, topped by
the U.S.
