Seoul shares trade 0.02 pct higher late morning
SEOUL, Jan. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.02 percent higher late
Monday morning in the first trading session of 2010 as investors scooped up tech
and securities shares.
After range-bound trading, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index
(KOSPI) rose 0.41 point to 1,683.18 as of 11:20 a.m.
Although investor sentiment remained fragile due to liquidity concerns over Kumho
Asiana Group, foreign and institutional investors' buying underpinned the Seoul
bourse. Chip giant Hynix Semiconductor rose almost 3 percent and leading
brokerage house Daewoo Securities jumped 4.3 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,155.20 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., up 9.30 won from Wednesday's close. The local stock market opened an hour
later than usual at 10:00 a.m. after ending the last session of 2009 on
Wednesday.
