HOUSE COMMITTEE TO QUESTION BOEDIONO, SRI MULYANI, KALLA

Jakarta, Jan 4 (ANTARA) - The House Bank Century Inquiry Committee is to question former Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Boediono, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and former Vice President Jusuf Kalla later this month, the committee's chairman said.

Committee chairman Idrus Marham said here Monday Boediono, Sri Mulyani and Kalla would be asked to answer questions in light of the findings of the investigative audit conducted by the State Audit Board (BPK) on Bank Century's finances some time ago.

Speaking to reporters after an internal consultative meeting of the committee at the parliament building, Idrus said Boediono and Sri Mulyani would be summoned for questioning on January 11-13 while the date for Kalla's appearance was still being coordinated with the former vice president.

The three serving and former government officials would be quizzed about the policy underlying the decision to bail out Bank Century and the process of the bailout's realization.

"The summonses for hearings have already been served on the three," Idrus said.

Apart from former BI chief, the finance minister and the former vice president, the committee would also question a few serving and former Bank Indonesia officials, former members of the Committee for Financial System Stability (KSSK) and of the Coordination Committee on how Bank Century was able to receive funds under the government's Short-Term Loan Facility (FPJP).

In February, Idrus said, the committee would call a number of witnesses in relation with the Bank Century fund flows.

Meanwhile, House Committee Vice Chairman Mahfud Sidiq said former BI deputy governor Aulia Pohan would also appear before the committe on Tuesday (Jan 5).

Aulia Pohan would be asked about the process in which three banks had merged to become Bank Century and how Bank century was able to obtain funds under the FPJP scheme.

The House Inquiry Committee would also hear former Bank Century majority shareholder Robert Tantular on Thursday (Jan 7).

Tantular would be asked about how Bank Century used to be managed and how he succeeded in taking out huge ammunts of money from his own bank.
