THAILAND'S REPRESENTATIVE TO ASEAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
Jakarta, Jan. 5 (ANTARA) - Thailand`s Permanent Representative (PR) to ASEAN Manasvi Srisodapol presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Surin Pitsuwan at the ASEAN Secretariat Monday, an official report said.
According to a press statement of the Jakarta-based ASEAN Secretariat, in expressing his pleasure at receiving Ambassador Manasvi, Dr Surin said that the "appointment is certainly a good way to kick start the new year. My colleagues at the ASEAN Secretariat and I look forward to working with him in progressing the work of the Committee of Permanent Representatives."
According to the ASEAN Charter, each ASEAN Member State shall appoint a PR to ASEAN with the rank of Ambassador based in Jakarta. Collectively, the PRs constitute the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) whose tasks include supporting the work of the ASEAN Community Councils, coordinating with ASEAN National Secretariats and other ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies. The CPR also liaises with the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat.
To date, there are nine ASEAN Member States whose Ambassadors have presented their credentials to the Secretary-General.
Before taking up his current position, Ambassador Manasvi served as the Deputy Director-General, Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand.
