PRESIDENT SATISFIED ABOUT COUNTRY'S 2009 ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE

Jakarta, Jan 5 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia`s economic performance in 2009 was quite sound despite the global economic crisis.

"Alhamdulillah with hard work and all efforts being taken, we managed to maintain the 2009 economic performance far much better than that in other countries," President Yudhoyono said when submitting a List of Approved Projects (DIPA) B 2010 to state ministries and departments as well as regional administrations.

The national economic growth in 2009 was estimated at above four percent, or the third rank among the G-20 member countries.

Last year`s inflation rate was 2.78 percent, or the lowest over the past 10 years. Meanwhile the rupiah closed at Rp9,400 per US dollar or up 15 percent.

The foreign exchange reserves amounted over US$65 billion, the highest figure ever achieved by Indonesia.

The performance of the amended State Budget 2009 was excellent with deficit cut to Rp87 trillion or 1.6 percent from the gross domestic product, much lower that the earlier target of Rp130 trillion or 2.4 percent of the cross domestic product.

"This achievement is much better than that in many other countries being affected by the global economic crisis. Many countries suffered from budget deficit increase reaching 5 to 10 percent from the gross domestic product, with negative economic growth," he said.

The State Income in 2009 reached Rp867 trillion or only 0.5 percent lower than the target. The realization of tax revenue was 1.7 percent lower than the target, and the non-tax revenues reached Rp225 trillion or 3 percent higher than the target.

The realization of the state expenses in 2009 was recorded at Rp954 trillion, or 4.7 percent lower than the plan.

In 2009, Indonesia managed to save the loan interest payment more than Rp15 trillion thanks to better loan management.

Indonesia enjoyed a budget surplus of Rp38 trillion in the end of 2009.

The theme of the government`s 2010 Working Plan is "National Economic Recovery and Maintaining the People`s Welfare."

The head of state submitted the DIPA for the 2010 budget at the State Palace in a ceremony attended by Vice President Boediono, all cabinet ministers and the 33 governors from across the country.

The government is expected to allocate the 2010 expense and budget funds amounting to Rp1,047.7 trillion or 15.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.

The amount was up Rp93.7 trillion or around 9.8 percent from the realization of the Amended State Budget 2009 of Rp954 trillion.
