SJAFRIE : US VISA DENIAL NOT TO HINDER HIS SERVICE
Jakarta, Jan 6 (ANTARA) - Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said the denial of his visa application by the US government posed no problem with regard to the implementation of his tasks.
After his inauguration as a vice minister of defense by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday, Sjafrie said that the case would only motivate him to open more communications with all countries including the United States.
"As a citizen, as a state official and as a soldier, I feel the visa denial will not cause a problem on my main job. It will even encourage me to open more communications with all countries including the US," he said.
Sjafrie who was formerly secretary general of the ministry of defense said he did not know why his visa application had been refused.
He applied the visa when he was to accompany President Yudhoyono to the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh, the US, in October 2009.
When asked what he would do if later he had to go to the US on official business, he answered lightly "there are many ways to Rome."
Regarding the objection of non-governmental organization "Kontras" to his appointment as vice minister, Sjafrie said it would only motivate him to introspect and be careful in carrying out his tasks.
"I have a big enough heart to accept pros and cons towards my appointment and will accept them as an encouragement for me to introspect and concentrate and be careful in carrying out my duties," he said.
In his new position, Sjafrie said, he would strengthen the position of the minister of defense and consolidate the task of the defense ministry in designing and implementing the defense system.
He said he would not carry out the task exclusively because his position was part of the minister's decision making process.***
