Seoul hit by lowest temperature in four years
SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- The mercury fell to minus 13.6 C in Seoul Thursday, the
lowest temperature in four years as a weeklong cold snap continued across South
Korea, the country's weather watchdog said.
Seoul's morning low marked a further fall from Wednesday's minus 13.3 C,
according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), hitting the lowest
temperature since the country's capital registered minus 14.1 C on Feb. 3, 2006.
Cheorwon, a town in Gangwon Province close to the border with North Korea, marked
minus 25.3 C, the lowest in the country, and Daegwallyeong, a mountain pass in
South Korea's northwestern region, hit minus 24 C, the KMA said.
The daily high is expected to reach minus 6 C in Seoul, according to the KMA
forecast.
The bitter cold air mass, expected to stay over the Korean Peninsula for few more
days, will force the temperature to stay in the range of minus 10 C to 20 C
across the peninsula, said the KMA.
