S. Korea's auto output falls 8.2 pct in 2009

SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's production of cars, trucks and buses fell
8.2 percent in 2009 from the year before, pushed down by the global economic
slump, an industry body said Thursday.
Output declined to 3.51 million units last year, compared with 3.82 million
vehicles, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association said in a statement.
The group said sluggish exports were behind the decline. Last year, exports
dropped 20.1 percent to 2.12 million units, while domestic sales rose 20.7
percent to 1.39 million units, it said.
