SEARCH TEAM FINDS THREE BODIES FROM ``OCEAN LARK`` SHIPWRECK
Tanjungpinang, Indonesia, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - A joint Indonesia-Singapore search and rescue team has found the bodies of three crew members of the tugboat "Ocean Lark" that sank in Indonesia's Riau Islands waters on Wednesday.
"Today the joint SAR team found three bodies from the Ocean Lark shipwreck," head of the SAR office here, Bambang Subagyo, said here on Friday.
He said the team located two bodies at around 9.30am and another one at 10 am.
"So until today five bodies have been found," he said.
He said the total number of victims in the incident was 13 with two saved, five dead and six declared missing.
The survivors as well as the dead victims were all evacuated to Singapore for further process because "the boat's agency is in Singapore," he said.
The names of the victims still had yet to be confirmed. The Tanjungpinang SAR service only conducted evacuation while collection of data about the victims was done by the Singapore Rescue Coordination Center and the ship's agency in Singapore.
According to the Tanjungpinang SAR service weather conditions on the scene kept changing with waves rising to three meters high and wind was very strong and clouds very thick.
"The weather is not supporting the evacuation process. Sometimes the team has to return to avoid being hit by waves and strong wind," he said.
He said the search operations would continue to be done until an agreement was reached with the Singapore Rescue Coordination Centre.
"We are still waiting for further confirmation from the Singapore RCC regarding the search operations," he said.
The Ocean Lark was believed to have sunk at between 10am and 11am in Tanjung Berakit waters in Bintan on Wednesday.***
