DPR DROPS CALL FOR BOEDIONO, MULYANI`S SUSPENSION

Jakarta, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has decided to drop its appeal for the suspension of Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani over the Bank Century case.

DPR Vice Speaker Priyo Budisantoso said here on Friday the decision was made at a DPR's Consultative Board meeting on Thursday led by House Speaker Marzuki Alie.

He said there were factions who agreed to pass on the appeal but there were also those who would like to stop it with the DPR leadership.

"Those who agreed to pass on the appeal were Golkar, PDIP, PKS, Hanura and Gerindra factions," he said.

Priyo said the DPR's Consultative Board discussed two letters sent by the House Century Bank Inquiry Committee, one about budget for the committee signed by committee deputy chairman Yahya Sacawirya and another signed by committee chairman Idrus Marham about the appeal for non-activity of Boediono and Sri Mulyani.

He said the reason for dropping the appeal was because those officials responded the committee's summons positively.

He however admitted that several factions had also expressed an objection to the decision.

"I heard several factions had objected to the decision. Please raise the issue in the plenary session. The final word will come from the plenary," he said.

A member of the Regional Representatives Council, I Wayan Sudirta, questioned the DPR leadership's decision saying that no internal rules of the DPR gave the Consultative Board an authority to block the appeal.

"We must make it clear if the Consultative Board actually has ot does not have the authority to block or not to block letters that come to the DPR leadership," he said.***
