TWO MORE BODIES FROM "OCEAN LARK" SHIPWRECK FOUND
Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, Indonesia, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - A joint Indonesia-Singapore rescue team found two more bodies from the tugboat "Ocean Lark" which sank in Indonesia's Riau Islands waters last Wednesday (Jan 6).
"Up till now, we have found seven dead victims of the accident," chief of Tanjung Pinang's Search and Rescue Office, Bambang Subagyo, said here on Saturday, adding that four other people from the ill-fated boat had remained missing.
He said the total number of victims in the incident was 13 with two saved, five dead and six declared missing. All victims were brought to Singapore for further identification process since the boat`s agency was based in the city state.
"We are still waiting for complete data on the 13 casualties" said Bambang adding that the Indonesia-Singapore's rescue team had agreed to continue the search until January 12, 2010, or seven days after the accident.
According to the Tanjungpinang SAR service. weather conditions at the scene of the shipwreck kept changing with waves rising to as high as three meters, winds blowing at very high speeds and skies darkened by thick clouds.
"The weather is not supportive of the evacuation efforts. Sometimes the team has to return to shore to avoid the high waves and strong winds," he said.
The Ocean Lark was believed to have sunk at between 10am and 11am in Tanjung Berakit waters in Bintan on Wednesday (Jan 6).***
