QUAKE SENSORS INSTALLED IN FOUR BENGKULU DISTRICTS

Bengkulu, Indonesia, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Four mini earthquake sensors have been installed in four districts in Bengkulu province and put under the control of the Kepahiang Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Kepahiang BMKG spokesman Dadang Permana said here on Saturday the four quake sensors were placed in the districts of Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu Tengah, Seluma, and Kepahiang.

"Those sensors are able to detect earthquakes in Benkulu and vicinity and the data will be received by the Kepahiang Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency," Dadang Permana said.

Six other sensors installed in the districts of Mukomuko, Enggano island in Bengkulu Utara, Bengkulu Selatan, Lebong, Kepahiang, and Bengkulu city were directly connected with the BMKG center in Jakarta.

He said the function of the four quake sensors was similar to the other six sensors but were specifically designed to detect earthquakes measuring below 5 on the Richter scale and to support the data and BMKG center in Jakarta.

Bengkulu is an earthquake-prone area in Indonesia and was jolted by at least 412 earthquakes last year, and averagely jolted by 36 to 40 earthquakes per month.***
