Seoul shares open higher on tech, steelmaker gains

SEOUL, Jan. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher Monday as foreign investors snapped up tech blue chips and steel makers, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 8.35 points, or
0.49 percent, to 1,703.61 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Large-cap tech shares lent support to the key index with LG Electronics rising
more than 2 percent. Top steel maker POSCO advanced more than 3 percent, while
other steel makers also gained ground.
The local currency was trading at 1,120.15 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 10.35 won from Friday's close.
