RI HOPING TO GET JAPANESE ASSISTANCE FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Jakarta, Jan 11 (ANTARA) - Indonesia hopes to receive Japanese assistance for infrastructure development in certain regions, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Radjasa said here on Monday.
"In a discussion on Indonesia's economic corridor development, the hope was expressed that Japan will help us develop infrastructure facilities in certain regions," Hatta said at an Indonesia-Japan Joint Economic Forum at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Hatta said Indonesia-Japan economic cooperation was focused on wide aspects, namely trade, investment, infrastructure, and energy.
"The meeting this time is the implementation of the cooperation agreement, including the one which was signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2005, namely the strategic investment action plan and Indonesia-Jepang Partnertship (IJEPA) on August 20, 2007," Hatta Radjasa said.
According to him, IJEPA became effective on July 1, 2008 and a recent meeting of President Yudhoyono and Japanese prime minister in Bali strengthened the win-win economic cooperation commitment.
"Japan is our investment, trade and economic partner which has given a lot of assistance to Indonesia. Indonesia has natural resources and Japan has technology and capital that contribute to a strategic partnership," Hatta said.
The minister expressed hope that the Indonesia-Japan Forum would be an arena for information exchange on investment, trade, industry, infrastructure, and energy.
The forum was also attended by Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Industry Minister MS Hidayat, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Z Saleh, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and National Development Planning Board Infrastructure Deputy Dedy S Pratna.
Hatta said the forum was not a momentary event but would be held periodically on an alternating basis in Indonesia and Japan.
"The two countries should renew their cooperative relations and therefore we are certain that Indonesia-Japan economic relations will improve in the next five years," Hatta said.***
