ONLY 10 STATE FIRMS EXPECTED TO SUFFER LOSSES THIS YEAR

Jakarta, Jan 12 (ANTARA) - The government is determined to reduce the number of state firms suffering losses to 10 in 2010 from 20 last year.

The total losses from the 10 state firms are expected to reach around Rp143.8 billion compared to Rp1.17 trillion last year, State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said here on Tuesday.

Three state firms managed to make profit last year after suffering losses for years, he said.

"Reducing the number of state firms suffering losses is not ambitious but realistic target," he said.

He said the State Enterprises Ministry will go ahead with its program of corporate restructuring, regrouping, merger and acquisition as part of efforts to improve the state firms` performance.

Among the state firms that still suffer losses are PT Djakarta Lloyd, PT Industri Sandang, PT Survei Udara Penas, Perum Produksi Film Negara (PFN), and PT Pradnya Paramitra.

Secretary of the State Enterprises Ministry Muhammad Said Didu said the net profit of the country`s 139 state firms this year is expected to jump to Rp90 trillion from last year`s forecast of Rp74.28 trillion.

The energy sector is expected to contribute Rp35.10 trillion to the total, followed by the banking sector Rp19.5 trillion, the telecommunication sector Rp12.21 trillion, the mining sector Rp4.94 trillion and the insurance sector Rp3.55 trillion.
